GOOD NEWS FOR GREEN CARD HOLDERS: F2A IS CURRENT FOR FILING!

Published August 31, 2026

The September 2026 Visa Bulletin brings important good news for Green Card holders seeking permanent residence for their spouses and unmarried children under 21.

The F2A Dates for Filing category is CURRENT for all countries, meaning there is no priority-date cutoff under the September Dates for Filing chart.

What You Need to Know:

F2A is for spouses and unmarried children under 21 of lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders).

F2A is CURRENT on the September 2026 Dates for Filing chart.

This applies to all countries - the chart shows “C” for F2A across every listed chargeability area.

No priority-date cutoff for filing under this chart: The State Department explains that when a category is designated “Current,” applicants in that category may file regardless of priority date.

For applicants inside the United States: Whether you may file Form I-485 using the Dates for Filing chart depends on which chart USCIS designates for September 2026 and whether you otherwise qualify for adjustment of status.

For applicants abroad: A current Dates for Filing category can allow eligible applicants to move forward with immigrant visa documentation through the National Visa Center when instructed.

Please Note: “Current for Filing” Does Not Mean Immediate Green Card Approval.

The F2A Final Action Date is not current. For September, it is August 22, 2026 for most countries and August 22, 2025 for Mexico. This means a case generally cannot receive final immigrant visa/Green Card approval until the applicant's priority date is eligible under the Final Action Dates chart.

What This Means for Green Card Holders:

If you are a lawful permanent resident with a spouse or unmarried child under 21 who needs a Green Card, September's F2A filing chart presents an important opportunity to evaluate whether the case can move forward. You may want to prepare and submit your petition in September.
